Lois Gutierrez is the one who does the painting on the pottery while Derek fires the pottery. By using multiple colors, Lois paints the Pueblos, Dances, Scene of life, and on occasion wildlife. Back in 1984 Losi and Derek both won the Best Of Show award during Santa Fe Indian Market. While Lois is the granddaughter of Santa Clara potter Petra Gutierrez and the sister of Goldenrod (Gloria Garcia), Minnie Vigil and Thelma Talachy. Derek is not Native American but Hispanic.
