LASANSKY, TOMAS | CUSTER PAINTING
Tomas Lasansky followed in his father’s (Mauricio Lasansky) footsteps and learned the meticulous skills needed for the craft of printmaking. Tomas is known for is printmaking but he even created detailed paintings and drawings In this painting on linen, Lasansky has with fine detail depicted Custer. Custer was a United States Army officer and cavalry commander in the American Civil War and the American Indian Wars. When asked about the people he recreates in his art, Tomas said he portrays those who he has found influential to him. This particular painting is a splatter on Linen. The technique in splatter is he holds the paintbrush essentially flicks the wrist or in a throwing motion of the hand to create small and large paint drops that splatter onto the canvas.
