RedSun - Tol-pi-yiné Simbola (Tol-pi)
My name is Tol-pi-yiné Simbola (Tol-pi). I am a metalsmith from Picuris Pueblo, working out of my studio just outside Pojoaque Pueblo in El Rancho.
I am 30 years old and have been making jewelry on and off since I was 12, the first year I was accepted into the Santa Fe Indian market. I won, and you then took a break to work in the movie industry. I have been working full-time on my jewelry fellowship since I was 18 and for the last four years.
Being entirely self-taught, my work is much more contemporary, and I like to think more visually striking than the typical “Native art/jewelry.” I pride myself on intricate and somewhat complex designs that take much time to create. I have always been interested in architecture and letting the metal speak for itself. However, I have recently gotten back from learning to set gemstones and diamonds under a microscope – which will take my creations to the next level.
