Micro-inlay so fine it reads like painting in stone.

Carl and Irene Clark are among the most technically accomplished jewelers working in the Diné (Navajo) tradition, building vibrant micro-fine inlaid images from hundreds of tiny, hand-cut stones — each one individually shaped and set by hand.

This sterling silver bolo pairs that with tufa casting, where the design is carved into volcanic tufa stone and molten silver is poured to take its form. The result: a stylized Navajo Yei figure, rendered in inlay so intricate.

Handmade by Denise Wallace in 1992, this sterling silver link bracelet pairs three fossilized ivory faces with three sterling silver cutouts depicting killer whales and wolves the imagery that gives this limited-edition piece its name. Each link is individually worked, and the contrast between the warm, aged ivory and the crisp silver openwork is classic Wallace. Number 2 of only 200 produced.

Handmade in sterling silver using the lost-wax casting process, this ring carries one of James’ signature contrasts tufa stone-inspired texture carved into the wax against highly polished silver surfaces. Centered is a stacked inlay of turquoise, lapis, jet, and opal, creating a bold geometric composition.

Hidden underneath is James Little’s hallmark: four lines.
