This 18k gold tufa cast pendant was made by Sonwai This 18k gold tufa cast pendant was made by Sonwai, the renowned Hopi jeweler known for continuing the legacy of her uncle, Charles Loloma, while forging a distinct artistic voice of her own. A master of tufa casting and intricate stone inlay, Sonwai’s work is celebrated for its elegance, balance, and. Hopi symbolism.

This large pendant begins with a hand-carved tufa stone, which Sonwai used to cast the figure in solid 18k gold, leaving behind a textured surface with raised details. The front of the pendant features a stylized face carved from a large piece of high-grade turquoise, adorned with a wrap-around turquoise bead necklace, adding dimension.

On the reverse, Sonwai included an offset inlay of turquoise, coral, and lapis, accented with fine-line gold bars. The piece is signed “Sonwai” on the back and is presented on a brown leather cord.
