Huntinghorse, Dina Sterling Silver & 14k Gold Bracelet “Bear Design”

$2,800.00

Gold Bear & Rug Pattern Overlay Bracelet

This overlay bear bracelet by Dina Huntinghorse combines a bold rug pattern design in sterling silver with a bear accent overlaid in 14k gold. The geometric pattern runs across the cuff like a woven textile, while the warm gold bear stands out against the cool silver. At 1¼ inches wide, the bracelet makes a strong statement on the wrist.

Metal — Sterling silver with 14k gold overlay

Design — Rug pattern with 14k gold bear accent

Size — 5½ in. inside

Opening — 1 in.

Width — 1¼ in.

An Overlay Bear Bracelet with a Weaver’s Pattern

The rug pattern design draws on the geometric patterns of Navajo weaving: stepped lines, bands, and repeating blocks of shape. Dina translates that textile language into metal using overlay. First, she cuts the design from a top sheet of silver. Then she solders it onto a base layer and darkens the recessed areas, so the pattern reads crisply in light and shadow.

Against that pattern, the 14k gold bear on this overlay bear bracelet brings warmth and focus. Because gold and silver sit side by side, the bracelet shows a contrast that a single metal can’t give. In addition, the wide cuff gives the design room to breathe, so the pattern and the bear each hold their own.

Dina Huntinghorse and Herbert Taylor

Dina Huntinghorse is a citizen of the Wichita and Affiliated Tribes of Oklahoma. She learned silversmithing from her late husband, the Navajo jeweler Herbert Taylor, who taught her inlay, lapidary, and overlay. Herbert became known for his work in silver and gold, including 14k gold bear accents, before his death in 1996.

Since then, Dina has developed her own voice, often drawing on the animals and landscapes of the Great Plains. Her work has won awards at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum. In short, this overlay bear bracelet carries forward the techniques she learned from Herbert, shaped by her own eye.

Jeweler  ·  Wichita and Affiliated Tribes of Oklahoma

Dina Huntinghorse is a Wichita jeweler raised in southwestern Oklahoma. She works in sterling silver and gold, setting high-grade turquoise, coral, and sugilite into pieces built around the animals of the Plains: horses, wolves, bears, and buffalo.

She began as a painter, then learned beadwork from her aunt. Her beaded deerskin purses are in the permanent collection of the Heard Museum. In 1989, she married Navajo silversmith Herbert Taylor, who taught her inlay, lapidary, and overlay. After his death in 1996, she carried his techniques forward and developed a style all her own.

Today she designs and builds each piece by hand, working in silver, 14k and 18k gold, and diamonds. She exhibits at the Santa Fe Indian Market and the Heard Museum Guild Indian Fair & Market, and her work belongs to private collections across the Southwest.

Bracelet Sizing Guide: How to Measure Your Wrist for the Perfect Fit

Choosing the right bracelet size is essential for both comfort and style. Whether you’re purchasing a cuff or a link design, our simple guide below will help you measure your wrist accurately and find the ideal fit.

Step-by-Step: How to Measure Your Wrist

You only need a flexible measuring tape, a strip of paper, or a string.

Option 1: Using a Flexible Measuring Tape

  1. Wrap the tape snugly around your wrist just above the wrist bone (the area where you would normally wear a watch).
  2. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.
  3. This is your wrist size.

Option 2: Using a String or Strip of Paper

  1. Wrap the string or paper around your wrist in the same location (above the wrist bone).
  2. Mark the point where the string overlaps.
  3. Lay the string flat and measure it with a ruler.
  4. This is your wrist size.

Choosing the Right Fit

Different bracelet styles may fit differently. Here’s a general guideline based on the style of bracelet:

Cuff Bracelets (Non-Adjustable)

Cuffs should fit snugly but comfortably. We recommend adding 1/4″ to 1/2″ to your wrist measurement depending on your desired fit:

  • Snug Fit: Add 1/4″
  • Comfort Fit: Add 1/2″

Example: If your wrist measures 6", a cuff bracelet that is 6 1/4" to 6 1/2" total (including the opening) would be ideal.

Chain or Link Bracelets

For flexible bracelets with clasps:

  • Add 1/2″ to 3/4″ to your wrist measurement for a comfortable fit.
  • A looser fit can be achieved by adding up to 1 inch.
