Begay, Harvey Sterling Silver Bracelet “Zigzag”

$3,000.00

Sterling Silver Zigzag Cuff Bracelet

This Harvey Begay sterling silver bracelet sets bold, raised zigzag bands against a deeply textured background. Harvey Begay made the piece by hand in wax, then cast it in sterling silver. He used tools to work the background into a rough, granular surface, while he left the zigzags with a smooth satin finish. As a result, the two surfaces play off each other, and the pattern stands out clearly across the cuff.

Metal — Sterling silver

Technique — Handmade in wax and cast, with a tool-textured background

Design — Raised satin zigzag bands

Size — 6, with a 1⅛ in. opening

Width — 1⅛ in.

Hallmark — Signed “HB,” stamped “.925”

A Harvey Begay Sterling Silver Bracelet Made in Wax

Working in wax let Harvey carve fine detail into every part of the design. For example, each zigzag band is cut with crisp parallel lines, and the dark grooves between them give the pattern depth. Meanwhile, the textured panels between the bands catch light like sand, so the smooth zigzags look even brighter. The cuff is widest at the center and tapers toward the ends, which gives it a strong, sculptural shape on the wrist.

The bracelet fits a size 6 wrist and has a 1⅛ in. opening. At 1⅛ in. wide, it makes a confident statement on its own or stacked with other pieces. In addition, Harvey signed the bracelet “HB” and stamped it “.925” for sterling silver.

About Harvey Begay

Harvey Begay was a Navajo jeweler and the son of Kenneth Begay, one of the pioneers of modern Navajo jewelry. He grew up working in his father’s shop. Before he turned to jewelry full time, he served as a U.S. Navy flight officer and worked as a test pilot for McDonnell Douglas. Later, he became known for lost-wax casting with remarkable detail, working in both silver and gold. He died in 2009. Today, a Harvey Begay sterling silver bracelet like this one shows the precision and design sense that defined his work.

Bracelet Sizing Guide: How to Measure Your Wrist for the Perfect Fit

Choosing the right bracelet size is essential for both comfort and style. Whether you’re purchasing a cuff or a link design, our simple guide below will help you measure your wrist accurately and find the ideal fit.

Step-by-Step: How to Measure Your Wrist

You only need a flexible measuring tape, a strip of paper, or a string.

Option 1: Using a Flexible Measuring Tape

  1. Wrap the tape snugly around your wrist just above the wrist bone (the area where you would normally wear a watch).
  2. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.
  3. This is your wrist size.

Option 2: Using a String or Strip of Paper

  1. Wrap the string or paper around your wrist in the same location (above the wrist bone).
  2. Mark the point where the string overlaps.
  3. Lay the string flat and measure it with a ruler.
  4. This is your wrist size.

Choosing the Right Fit

Different bracelet styles may fit differently. Here’s a general guideline based on the style of bracelet:

Cuff Bracelets (Non-Adjustable)

Cuffs should fit snugly but comfortably. We recommend adding 1/4″ to 1/2″ to your wrist measurement depending on your desired fit:

  • Snug Fit: Add 1/4″
  • Comfort Fit: Add 1/2″

Example: If your wrist measures 6", a cuff bracelet that is 6 1/4" to 6 1/2" total (including the opening) would be ideal.

Chain or Link Bracelets

For flexible bracelets with clasps:

  • Add 1/2″ to 3/4″ to your wrist measurement for a comfortable fit.
  • A looser fit can be achieved by adding up to 1 inch.
