Romero, Mike Bird Sterling Silver and Copper Bracelet “Carved Mask”

$2,800.00

Carved Mask Cuff Bracelet

This Mike Bird Romero mask bracelet centers on a face that Mike Bird Romero carved by hand and set in a sterling silver bezel. The mask looks out through two abalone shell eyes, and fine carved lines sweep across its brow and cheeks. On either side, he set a rectangle of abalone shell, and above the mask sits a single round mother of pearl in a serrated bezel. The cuff is built from sterling silver bands with one band of copper, hand stamped with a repeating accent design.

Metal — Sterling silver with a hand-stamped copper band

Centerpiece — Hand-carved mask with abalone shell eyes

Stones — Abalone shell and mother of pearl

Size — 5½, with a ⅞ in. opening

Width — 1⅞ in., tapering to 1 in.

A Mike Bird Romero Mask Bracelet in Silver and Copper

The mask gives this cuff its character. Its warm, honey-colored surface shows every carved line, while the abalone eyes flash blue and green as the light moves. As a result, the face seems to watch you from different angles. Meanwhile, the abalone rectangles on each side repeat those colors, and the mother of pearl adds a soft white accent above.

The bands balance the bold centerpiece. For example, the polished silver bands frame the design, while the copper band adds warmth and carries a row of hand-stamped marks. In addition, the open spaces between the bands keep the wide cuff from feeling heavy. The bracelet is a size 5½ with a ⅞ in. opening, and it tapers from 1⅞ in. at the top to 1 in. at the ends.

About Mike Bird Romero

Mike Bird Romero was born in 1946 at Ohkay Owingeh, formerly San Juan Pueblo, in New Mexico. After serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, he taught himself silversmithing, drawing on the work of jewelers such as Julian Lovato and Mark Chee. He is known for doing nearly every step by hand, from pouring his own ingot silver to carving tufa molds and making his own stamps. His jewelry is held by the Heard Museum, the Wheelwright Museum, and the British Museum. Today, a Mike Bird Romero mask bracelet like this one shows his range as both a carver and a silversmith.

Bracelet Sizing Guide: How to Measure Your Wrist for the Perfect Fit

Choosing the right bracelet size is essential for both comfort and style. Whether you’re purchasing a cuff or a link design, our simple guide below will help you measure your wrist accurately and find the ideal fit.

Step-by-Step: How to Measure Your Wrist

You only need a flexible measuring tape, a strip of paper, or a string.

Option 1: Using a Flexible Measuring Tape

  1. Wrap the tape snugly around your wrist just above the wrist bone (the area where you would normally wear a watch).
  2. Note the measurement in inches or centimeters.
  3. This is your wrist size.

Option 2: Using a String or Strip of Paper

  1. Wrap the string or paper around your wrist in the same location (above the wrist bone).
  2. Mark the point where the string overlaps.
  3. Lay the string flat and measure it with a ruler.
  4. This is your wrist size.

Choosing the Right Fit

Different bracelet styles may fit differently. Here’s a general guideline based on the style of bracelet:

Cuff Bracelets (Non-Adjustable)

Cuffs should fit snugly but comfortably. We recommend adding 1/4″ to 1/2″ to your wrist measurement depending on your desired fit:

  • Snug Fit: Add 1/4″
  • Comfort Fit: Add 1/2″

Example: If your wrist measures 6", a cuff bracelet that is 6 1/4" to 6 1/2" total (including the opening) would be ideal.

Chain or Link Bracelets

For flexible bracelets with clasps:

  • Add 1/2″ to 3/4″ to your wrist measurement for a comfortable fit.
  • A looser fit can be achieved by adding up to 1 inch.
